Children

Hatfield Chatterbooks group by Justin SutcliffeDid you know that reading for pleasure is more important to a child's educational achievement than their family's wealth or social class? A major study of reading came up with this powerful conclusion.*

And we know how important that difference is.

Our aim is to encourage more children to read more, reaching over one million children by 2013, and to be the organisation that has the tools and partnerships that can get young people fired up and engaged with reading and literacy. Our vision is that children's lives are enriched and changed by being able to get involved with reading and literacy opportunities.

Our work with children focuses on three key programmes:

"My first reading challenge was four years ago and I have done every Challenge since. It is enjoyable. It improves my reading in school. I have been inspired by the series about Mary-Kate and Ashley also the author Jacqueline Wilson." Tabassum (12) from Lancashire
